Wednesday at Crater Lake

Today may have been my favorite so far. Crater Lake is the most amazing place...i LOVED it. Here on the drive in to the Lake is the Pumice Desert... Here's a piece of pumice...

Crater Lake was formed from a volcano (Mt. Mazama) that erupted 7700 years ago and collapsed and then the snow fell and melted and filled up the crater, now known as Crater Lake. The water is a deep blue and trees are now filled in around half of the edge. In the middle of the Lake is Wizard Island which is a volcanic cone that is growing out of the center of the crater....
We sat next to the edge with this view on a blanket and read for a little while. It's so calm and beautiful, I could definitely have stayed here longer!
Me and my new favorite place:
On the other side of the lake is this little thing called Phantom Ship...I guess it does kinda look like a ship leaving the coast. pretty, eh?
We hiked down Cleetwood trail, which is over a mile on a downgrade that is no big deal on the way down, but the way up was pretty hard for me! At the bottom are boats and a rock shore and a place where people jump off into really deep clear water. Here goes Rob...

After this we had a 4 hour drive to the Redwoods on the coast, which we wanted to see and then see the sunset on the coast. Chasing the sun has become a regular event. Here's 2 of the huge redwoods...
We are in Napa Valley this morning...see y'all again soon!
